Welcome to Blancou's Stable

Picture

If you are looking to get away from everything, if you need a break from the stress of work and the city then look no further. St Privat is hidden away in the Hérault countryside, not too far from a town and with plenty to visit around the area but with just the sound of the cicadas when you are here.

Our gite is available all year round and we are on site as we live above it !

We fell in love with the peace and beauty of the area and we hope that you will come and fall in love with it too. Take a look around the site and feel free to contact us with any further questions.

A little bit of history

Picture
The family that owned this house before us still live in the village, the house belonged to their grandparents before them and no one knows the exact age. The gite was the stable where a horse called Blancou was kept and we have kept some of Blancou's horse shoes around the apartment and of course his trough.  When we bought the house there was no electricity and the stable looked like a black hole with earth floors and decrepit stable doors, we are very pleased with our renovation and we hope you are too!

The village

Picture
The chateau in St Privat was built in the thirteenth century, the village grew up around it and it is sometimes hard to work out where one house finishes and another begins. There is a small river that runs through the foot of the village called Le Maro. The commune of St Privat is made up of three villages; St Privat, Les Salces and La Rouquette all as picturesque as each other.
St Privat has no shops or bars, there is a mobile bakery that comes round four days a week and a grocer in a van on a Thursday. however the nearest supermarket is not far away (about 10/15 minutes drive) and the village of St Jean de La Blaquière has a pizzeria and a bakery/grocer's. Lodeve is 20 minutes drive away and Clermont L'Herault about the same you can find plenty of shops, a cathedral, museum etc in these towns.

Nous...

We are an English and French family, my husband comes from the Cote D'Azur and I hail from Liverpool. We have three children, Hugo 6, Luke 3 and Mia 1. There are many children in the village aged from 1 month to 10 years old and the village is a wonderful place for children. We have lived in St Privat for over two years now after falling in love with the village one January afternoon and making an offer on a house the same day !
